Monahan's Mudders Milk
by Marc Gunn, July 19, 2008
(Won't you) Pour me a glass
Of Monahan's Mudders Milk
We'll wash the mud away.
If you poor me a glass
Of Monahan's Mudders Milk
We'll leave Higgins' damn Moon some day.
I was 12 years old
When my daddy brought me here
With two brothers who loved to laugh,
But 10-20 in this muddy hole
We lost the laughing muscle mold
And my brothers lost their lives to mudders gas.
My daddy raised one fist
To tell the boss he's pissed,
Another to the foreman on third shift,
But when he raised his shovel
To protest his low wage troubles
He was shot down and dumped in a muddy ditch.
Well mudden's all I know
Until I've 'nough to go
And take my own three boys far from here.
Maybe another place much worse
In this here cold Verse
Till then I drink my Monahan's for cheer.
Pour me, pour me, mudder, mudder, mudder me,
Mudder, mudder me my milk.
Poor me, mudder me, mudder, mudder marry me
Mudder marry me my milk.

Hush, Little Citizen
Lullabye for a Somnambulant Public
by Cedric
Hush now, little citizen,
Forget what you have seen,
Yes, we know that it was broadwaved,
Every world on every screen,
Yes, we know you heard her dying words,
You heard her dying screams,
But please just watch our puppet show,
Don't ask who pulls the strings.
Hush now, little citizen,
Hush now, don't you cry,
Your daddy doesn’t torture,
No your daddy doesn't lie,
Your daddy has it covered up,
So please don't make a fuss,
Don't pretend that you've seen monsters,
Don't pretend they look like us!
CHORUS: Don't stand up, just lie down,
There are no monsters eating flesh,
Just monsters wearing crowns.
Don’t think that we are meddlesome,
Don't think we're in your heads,
You can stop the signal,
If you'll just go back to bed,
We are not some evil empire,
This is not what it seems,
So don't wake up somnambulists,
Just go back to your dreams.
CHORUS
So shut up, little citizen,
Cuz Parliament knows best,
Just put your thumb back in your mouth,
When you want to protest,
If you should start to question,
If our wars are justified,
Just swallow all our talking points,
And you'll be pacified.
CHORUS
Don't count the price of gas, my child,
Don't count the price of oil,
Don't count the price of soldier's blood,
That's shed on foreign soil.
Don't count the size of bonuses,
On Exxon-Mobil's head, (On Blue Sun's rotting head)
Just line up where we tell you,
For your circuses and bread.
CHORUS
We're building better nations,
Better worlds, every one,
Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, (Shadow is still burning)
And we have just begun,
So if chickens should come home to roost,
Please lock Pandora's box,
Just shut your eyes and close your minds,
And listen to the fox!

Bring Me Home, Boys
by Marc Gunn
bring me home, boys, bring me home
bring me home, boys, bring me home
go and tell my momma I died a man
and when my breath has left
bring me home
my sergeant said, boy, don't you run
I don't care if the alliance comes
I saw him die, but I took a stand
so go and tell my papa I died a man
I was brave, boy, as best I can
I felt my gun shake, as a shot a man
but bullets pierced my heart, can't feel my hands
now go and tell my brother I died a man
just you and me, boy, are left alive
but I can tell, not long, until I die
I did not run cause you're my friend
so go and tell my sister I died a man

Kaylee
by Cedric
Chorus:
Kay-leee (ooooo)
I would be yours today
Kay-leee (ooooo)
That is, I mean to say
Kay-ay-ay-leee
Let me play doctor with you
You're clever with the engine
And you're really very smart,
You're the only girl around me,
No, that's a terrible way to start.
I want to tell you what I feel,
I just can't figure how,
to say you mean more
than Bessie the Cow! (Oh, that's bad!)
Your parasol is pretty,
and your buns are rather cute.
Your flip-flops are as whimsical,
as the bear on your jumpsuit,
When we laugh together,
it's like I'm standing on a cliff,
I get dizzy,
then I go stiff. (not like that!)
Kaylee, I regret I had
no time to be your mister.
You see, it's really tough when you're
in love with your own sister.
If I ever seemed too formal,
It's 'cuz my feelings were complex,
I mean, who knew you just
wanted sex!

O Susannah

O Susanna
by Marc Gunn
I left my home on Ariel
An autoharp on my knee
I boarded a ship to Shadow
My true love for to see.
We burned real hard
For three whole weeks
Our boredom ne'er drawing nigh
Just the cold steel of a Firefly
Susanna, don't you cry.
O Susanna, don't you cry for me.
I left my home on Ariel, an autoharp on my knee
O Susanna, don't you cry for me.
I boarded a ship to Shadow My true love
For to see.
I had a dream the other night
Reevers they came on board
I thought I saw Susanna
Staring down that bloody horde
She loaded up a shotgun
The bullets never ran dry
Those reevers, they hit the ground
O Susanna, pulled me to her thigh.
I soon will be on Shadow.
I'll look in an old Saloon
If she's not there, I'll search the Verse
Comb every bloody moon.
And if I do not find her
Well, I'm sure I'll up'n'die
And when I'm dead and buried
O Susanna, don't you cry.

Fruity Oaty Bars Parody
Chorus:
Fruity Oaty Bars -- Make a man out of a mouse
Fruity Oaty Bars -- Make you bust out of your blouse.
Eat 'em all the time,
They will blow your mind!
Fruity Oaty Bars -- Miranda's what she said
Fruity Oaty Bars – Now everyone is dead
The message was sublime,
Now she's lost her mind!
Fruity Oaty Bars – The Reavers are insane
Fruity Oaty Bars – The Alliance is to blame
Now you know the facts,
Don't inhale the Pax! [big breath]
Chorus
Fruity Oaty Bars – The Signal has one chance
Fruity Oaty Bars – He's a captain in tight pants
Don't let the Reavers chow
Grenades are handy now!
Fruity Oaty Bars – Two out of nine get squashed
Fruity Oaty Bars – Say farewell to Book and Wash
I bet that really smarts
A stake right through the heart!
(What did you expect from Joss Whedon?)

Browncoats Keep Flyin'

Browncoats Keep Flyin'
by Rie Sheridan Rose and Marc Gunn
Serenity Valley broke many a man
but the Browncoats keep flyin'
as best as we can.
Our fight weren't for glory
or gold or for guns.
Our fight was for freedom
for our daughters and sons.
*Freedom's a spark
in the heart of the Black
and the Browncoats are aimin'
to take our 'Verse back
Sure there are comforts we lost 'long the way
and many a Browncoat's
still hunted today.
But our prize is the freedom
to follow the stars
and to know that whatever
we hold to is ours.
Oh, the Black has its dangers--
like Reavers and thieves--
but it goes on forever,
as free as you please.
So we'll try our luck there
till it beats us at last...
Our faces turned forward,
our hearts in the past.
So band with us brothers,
wheree'er you might be
and remember the lessons
of Serenity--
For Browncoats stood tall
when they gave us their worst,
and there are no finer men
in the whole of the 'Verse.
And the Browncoats keep flyin'
as best as we can...

Freedom Costs
An Anthem for the 76th Independent Battalion
by James "Cedric" Hazlerig
When you can't run, you walk / And when you can't walk, you crawl,
If you find someone to carry you / Then rise up and stand tall.
One raindrop might be nothin' / But no one can stop a wave,
So let us stand united / When we aim to misbehave.
Chorus:
Freedom costs, Freedom costs
When you know your cause is righteous,
You don't stop to count your loss;
Freedom costs, Freedom costs
Libertas Sumptus, Freedom costs
The Alliance is your enemy / But the top brass ain't your friend,
In the Independent Army / You're in the company of kin;
Though your enemies are many / Never fear their fierce attack,
Just remember you're a Browncoat / You've got friends to watch your back.
Well, you all had different reasons / But you all answered the call,
I'm about to ask lots more of you / From some, I will ask all.
Some of you won't see the dawn / Some won't see the night,
If we can't do something smart, my friends / Let's at least do something right.
[insturmental break]
It might look like madness / But love is what we've found.
Love's what keeps us in the air / When we ought to run aground.
Love will keep us sailin' / When it seems like we are through,
Well, we might be banged up plenty / But with love, we will fly true.

The Hero of Canton
tune and lyrics by Ben Edlund
Jayne, the man they call Jayne . . .
He robbed from the rich and he gave to the poor.
Stood up to the man and gave him what for.
Our love for him now ain't hard to explain.
The hero of Canton, the man they call Jayne.
Our Jayne saw the mudders' backs breakin'.
He saw the mudders' lament.
And he saw the magistrate takin',
every dollar and leavin' five cents.
"You can't do that to my people.
Can't crush them under your heel."
So Jayne strapped on his hat, and in five seconds flat,
stole everything Boss Higgins had to steal.
CHORUS
Now here is what separates heroes
from common folk like you and I.
The man they call Jayne, he turned 'round his plane
and let that money hit sky.
He dropped it onto our houses
he dropped it into our yards.
The man they called Jayne, he stole away our pain
and headed out for the stars!
CHORUS
